Rest and Light: Lasting Legacies of Love
This section is an offering of rest. It offers rest to Fannie Lou Hamer who worked hard to get other people access to healthcare and rest, but who unfortunately also worked beyond exhaustion and did not have access to safe medical care for most of her life. It offers rest to Ella Baker who could not take a sabbatical even when her community fundraised specifically for her to take time off. We offer them ancestral rest with gratitude for what they have done. They have left lessons that we can take on now.
And the most powerful offering of rest we can make is our own rest. I struggle with this part, because there is still so much to be done, but I am cultivating the trust and faith to rest. This section offers reflections on what rest means in the context of exploited labor and movement work. What does it take to let your light shine?
