Fannie Lou Hamer nurtured Black dignity, divinity and community building in the face of an electoral system shaped by and obedient to white supremacy. She confronted political corruption directly, built alternatives, addressed the basic needs of her people, built a broad and effective base of support and mentored and inspired generations. Now on her 103rd birthday, we need the specificity of her legacy as much as we ever have. This immersion draws on my years of loving archival and creative research about Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer.
