Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown created the term "visionary fiction" to describe the work of science and fiction and fantasy to do the liberating work of creating new worlds.  In honor of Octavia Butler and the revolutionary worlds that her engagement of race, gender and hierarchy make possible they gathered people from the social justice movements they are part of to step into our legacy as the offspring of Octavia.  I think of their work as the most beautiful fulfillment of the desire Octavia put forward at the 1988 Essence Writers Retreat.
